Outdoor LCDs are found in various fields. Nowadays, many firms are regarded as obsolete unless their presentation and technology reflect this. Unless you’re a rapper, no one wants to be called “old school.” Today’s customer wants to push boundaries and get the best value. No longer do just high-end businesses employ technology to promote their value. The ordinary Joe’s Main Street business reacts to the digital age by using LCDs in new ways. This exponential expansion of LCDs answers the urge to reach new and developing audiences.

1. Outdoor LCD Displays Work In Various Environments

Outdoor LCD does not restrict its application to outside environments; outdoor LCD screens may readily be placed inside. Outdoor implies that the LCD device you buy or build can survive the rigors of our ever-changing environment.

So Alaska’s snow and ice are no big deal. Phoenix’s scorching heat is absurd. Florida’s excessive humidity that ordinarily wreaks havoc on gadgets turns out devices are the ultimate in flexibility, ranging from -40°F to 185°F without a single blink.

2. Current Applications For Outdoor LCDs

Current applications that make use of outdoor LCDs include:

  • Airports And Train Stations

Time is of the essence for business and pleasure travelers. The information must also be visible from a distance. People don’t have time to check a computer screen for flight delays or cancellations. They need to know immediately as they rush through security, balancing their baggage, tickets, and the coffee they just purchased.

  • Child Care Facilities Exist In Churches, Synagogues, Gyms, And Shopping Malls.

Child care away from home enables parents to exercise, shop, or attend religious activities. The parent may be notified when their kid needs help using a giant LCD screen. This is preferable to an announcement over a loudspeaker, which disrupts others and embarrasses the parent.

  • Stores/Outdoor Markets

LCD Display modules may be seen playing films of product debuts or new additions to a favored range of items.

  • Restaurants/Cafes

The modest sandwich store has changed. Chalk and cursive writing are obsolete. Menu items like sandwiches and soups are shown in a clean and readable script that can modify with a few keystrokes.

  • Highway/Road Signs

Road conditions, speed restrictions, and closures alert drivers far enough in advance to make required adjustments.

  • LCDs may also issue Amber Alerts, making every driver a seeker of a missing or stolen kid.

3. Outdoor LCDs That Make Use Of LEDs Advantages And Disadvantages Of

This article’s other technologies have been around longer than LED (light-emitting diode) displays. While it is older, it is not going away soon. It is industry standard.

LEDs are found in flashlights, light bulbs, and dashboard warning lights. LEDs have long been utilized in outdoor LCDs.

Advantages Of LED In An Outdoor LCD Display:

  • Long half-life

It will be half as bright when the light has been on for half an hour. (The LED will not burn out.) LEDs have a half-life of 50K to 70K hours. This is crucial if the display will be utilized continually for 24 hours.

  • Brightness

LEDs are visible in direct sunshine and at night from afar. LEDs may be dimmed from full light during the day to a lesser glow at night.

  • Operating Temperature of LED’s

LEDs can work in -40oC (-40oF) to 85oC (185oF).

LEDs Disadvantages In An Outdoor LCD Display:

  • Power Hungry
  • There is no way around it; if you want a bright, dramatic display in broad daylight, LEDs may use a lot of electricity.
  • Outdoor displays with infinite power or linked to the grid do not have this difficulty; however, signs powered by batteries do.

4. OLED Outdoor LCDs Advantages And Disadvantages

Recently, OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diodes) display technology has been applied. Outdoor LCDs now lack OLEDs, although that may change in the next few years. The sign can now show over 64 million colors.

OLEDs are in phones, tablets, and eventually TVs.

Advantages Of OLEDs In Outdoor LCD Displays:

  • Operating temperature of OLEDs.
    • OLEDs can function in -40oC (-40oF) to 85oC (185oF).
  • Outdoor displays may provide a wide range of colors.

OLEDs Disadvantages In Outdoor LCD Displays:

  • The Short Half-Life For The Color Blue.

The blue color’s half-life is a fundamental flaw with OLEDs. Currently, the half-life rating is 14K-17K hours. Fortunately, half-life doesn’t mean the color burns off; it dims down to half its original brightness. So, no, blue won’t vanish from your screen. It won’t be as brilliant after its half-life. This isn’t important if your display is just on for a few seconds. OLED is not a good option if your display must run continuously.

  • Limited Size.

OLED technology is evolving. Because OLEDs are small, they are seldom employed on giant screens. LG is developing the biggest OLED, 55 inches from corner to corner when delivered.

5. Outdoor LCDs That Make Use Of UWVDs

This revolutionary display technology has the brightness of an LED, a viewing angle that surpasses FSTN (Film compensated Super Twisted Nematic), and a life that is 20x longer than EL (Electro Luminescent) or the blue hue seen in an OLED, among other advantages. This makes the UWVD display a versatile and highly successful outdoor LCD option.

DVDs are used in medical devices, dashboards, and measuring equipment.

Advantages Of UWVDs In An Outdoor LCD Display:

  • Uwvd’s Main Advantage Is Its Wider Viewing Angle.

An outdoor LCD must be legible from a broad viewing angle so that many people can see it without moving. Outdoor LCDs have traditionally had a limited viewing angle, but technology has advanced dramatically, increasing the number of permissible degrees. LCD technology is viewable when seen directly and at eye level. However, moving the display above or below eye level or left or right reduces readability. The angle changes the display’s readability, and the more extreme the angle, the more difficult it is to read. The viewing angle is expressed in degrees. You can get a 20% viewing angle by lowering the display to eye level and raising it a few inches. Earlier display technology had a 40 to 50-degree restriction above/below/left/right. Beyond that, the screen was illegible. UWVD enables for seeing up to 70 degrees in every direction.

  • UWVD Displays Used In Outdoor Displays Can Be Customized.

The second benefit of UWVD technology is reduced tooling costs and low MOQs. Custom UWVD displays enable consumers to create their outdoor show quickly and efficiently.

UWVD Disadvantages In An Outdoor Lcd Display:

  • The UWVD has the same flaw as the OLED. The display is too small for a traffic sign. This will alter as UWVD glass grows.

6. Outdoor LCDs That Make Use Of FSC Technologies

FSC (sequential field color) LCD is a new custom color LCD module technology.

FSC (sequential field color) LCD is a new custom color LCD module technology that allows the customer to design a color display to fit their product. They produce a sharp contrast and ultrafast response time at a fraction of the tooling cost for an OLED.

You do not need to pre-order the color you need because field sequential color displays provide all seven colors in each display. The color of the display is changed through the customer’s software. Standard colors include red, green, blue, yellow, cyan, and purple with a black or white background.

Advantages Of FSCs In Outdoor LCD Displays:

  • FSC sharpness contrast ratio

The FSC has double the contrast of a TFT (Thin-film transistor)

  • The FSC is tailored to the customer’s needs.

FSC has a cheaper MOQ (minimum order quantity) and a lower tooling price than custom TFTs.

Disadvantage Of FSCs In Outdoor LCD Displays:

  • Size is limited for now.

The FSC, like OLED and UWVD, has a disadvantage when used outside. The display is too small as you go past at 60 mph. As manufacturers expand available glass size, this will alter.

Each technology in this study has pros and cons, but LCD technology is continually improving. Make sure you have specialists like Focus LCDs working to provide you with all your possibilities. Let us help you provide your consumers with the finest.

7. Notes For Outdoor LCD Display Application

We all know that keeping the TFT screen outside the LCD is difficult. With a bit of care, outdoor LCD screens may be cleaned easily. General users should use an outside LCD screen, a clean cotton cloth, and water to clean the shell factory shine.

  • Outdoor LCD Protective Film Treatment

A protective layer was applied to the final module to avoid staining during assembly. Until the machine is fully assembled, it should not be removed to prevent filth or damage to the display surface.

  • Padded Outdoor TFT Module

Add a 0.1mm pad between the module and the front panel. After assembly, the panel should be flat.

  • Outdoor TFT Screen Anti-Static

The module’s control and drive circuits are low-voltage, micro-power CMOS circuits readily damaged by static electricity. Please don’t ignore it. Assemblage and usage must be exceedingly cautious to avoid static electricity. How to:

  • Don’t touch the external leads, circuit boards, or IC.
  • No electrical leakage from the welding iron is required.
  • When touching directly, make sure the body is firmly grounded to the module or contact a faucet or the metal table frame to release electricity.

8. Notes For Outdoor TFT Module Assembly

  • The LCD module is intricately built. Don’t try to process or fix it.
  • No twisting or removing of metal frame claws; Procure a copy of the PCB board for your own use. NON-MODIFY conductive strip NON-MODIFY INTERNAL AVOID TAKING MODULES AND BACKLIT PIECES.
  • The four mounting holes must be grounded to avoid EMF and external noise interference.

When welding the module’s external leads and interface circuits, the following rules apply:

  •  Before welding or changing the original connector, please check that the LCD module has passed the quality inspection.
  • Welding time: 34S; Welding material: eutectic, low melting point; Repeat welding not to exceed three times.
  • Damage to the LCD or PCB renders it unrepairable.
  • During welding, avoid soldering the LCD circuit board. Otherwise, a circuit short will generate an aberrant display.

9. Outdoor LCD Modules: Care And Use

  • The external lead of the liquid crystal module must not be removed to avoid damage to the module’s components due to overcurrent and voltage.
  • The signal level cannot be entered until the positive power (5 0.25v) is connected consistently. A consistent input signal level before or after the power supply might harm the IC and other circuits.
  • Temperature and driving voltage affect the lattice LCD module’s contrast and angle of view. A high VEE adjustment will impair the display and decrease the module’s life.
  • It isn’t easy to see the display below the recommended temperature range when used. But if you use it over the recommended operating temperature range, the entire display surface will show. The module is not damaged; it only has to be brought back to the proper temperature range. If the temperature is too low, the liquid crystal will crystallize, destroying the directional layer and rendering the device useless. If the temperature is too high, the liquid crystal will turn into an isotropic liquid, voiding the device’s function.
  • Hard pressing the display portion causes an abnormal display. Please turn off the power, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.
  • Avoid bumping into the IC on the module’s PCB to avoid shorting out neighboring pins.
  • Water droplets on the screen should be rapidly wiped away; prolonged contact can discolor or damage the screen.
  • If the screen is stained, clean it with absorbent cotton or a soft cloth.
